Brecon Beacons is a Green winner!

The Sustainable Tourism Team at the Brecon Beacons National Park run a number of green tourism projects to benefit businesses and ensure the park is a space for everyone to enjoy for generations to come. We were recognised as the UK’s Greenest Tourism Destination at the 1st Green Tourism Conference in 2013. See how your business can get involved and contribute to the National Park becoming  a more sustainable destination in which to live, work and visit.

Green Tourism Accreditation Scheme
We have a close working relationship with the Green Tourism programme, the most credible green tourism accreditation scheme in the world, designed specifically for tourism businesses who want to take a more responsible approach to management. There are nearly 2500 members in the UK and over 5000 worldwide. To date 62 tourism businesses have achieved a Green Tourism award in the Brecon Beacons, 17 of whom are Gold standard.

The Green Tourism programme is a proven tool which reduces your environmental impact, identifies cost savings, improves your public image and offers a credible, greener choice for consumers. So whether you want to reduce your carbon footprint and save money, ensure that you are using the best environmentally friendly options or identify responsible suppliers for your business, Green Tourism Business Scheme  can you help you!

If you are thinking about joining the scheme, Green Tourism Business Scheme has waived the one-off joining fee (£62.50 +VAT) and offers a 10% discount on on-going membership fees to businesses who are either located in the Europarc or who are members of Brecon Beacons Tourism.

I have found the Green Tourism programme very well adapted to my business and it has encouraged me to look at making every aspect of the business more environmentally friendly, from the paper and ink we use to the energy and heating system. The one thing I particularly like is that the programme  encourages tourism businesses to support other producers and businesses in the locality rather than just opting for the quick fix.  Quite often local is cheaper and better quality.” Liz Matthews, Aberhyddnant Farm Cottages

GreenTraveller
We have a close working relationship with the GreenTraveller Media Group, which published a GreenTraveller’s Guide to the Brecon Beacons. This is promoted on its digital platform that promotes sustainable transport and tourism to protected areas throughout the UK. All businesses that have been graded by the Green Tourism Business Scheme are featured on the GreenTraveller website which includes reviews of their business by a GreenTravellers travel writer.

Good Business Sense Workshops
We are also committed to delivering a number of Good Business Sense Workshops each year to offer advice and ideas on how to make your business more sustainable and to save you money! The workshops are also a good opportunity to look at best practice and network with like-minded businesses. In the past we have covered a wide range of subjects covering  LED lighting,  trying out electric vehicles and bikes, renewable energy and energy efficiency in older buildings to mention a few.
