Hedges and the Hedgerows Regulations

Hedgerows Regulations

The Hedgerows Regulations 1997 require owners of rural hedgerows to give their Local Planning Authority 42 days written notice of their intention to remove all or part of any hedgerow.  There are exemptions, including hedges that form the boundary or curtilage of a dwelling.  Anyone failing to give this notice may be guilty of an offence.
A guide to the Regulations can be found here

If you intend to remove all or part of a countryside hedge, please contact us to request a form to apply for permission. Bannau Brycheiniog National Park will assess whether the hedgerow is important in accordance with a number of criteria in the Regulations; there is a presumption in favour of retaining important hedgerows unless there are exceptional reasons to justify removal.
