What is Bluetongue?
Bluetongue is an insect-borne viral disease which can affect sheep, cattle and goats. Such ruminants become infected by being bitten by an infected midge. Bluetongue cannot be spread by or to humans or animals such as dogs. It is safe for you to walk in a Bluetongue restricted area.
How do the restrictions affect visitors?
No restrictions have been placed on access to the countryside as a result of Bluetongue. All areas covered by Open Access legislation are still open to visitors.
