The sun, solar flares and possibly even the moon will be revealed when the National Park Visitor Centre, near Libanus is briefly transformed into a mini daylight observatory on Saturday 30th July from 10.30am until 4.00pm – and what’s more it’s absolutely free!
Sky high on the enormous success of their star gazing events, Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority and the Cardiff Astronomical Society know there is a real appetite for all things astronomical, so they have teamed up to allow the public that rare chance to take a peek at the sun during the day using special telescopes to ensure it’s safe.
Richard Levy, National Park Visitor Centre Manager said: “The event will also offer a wonderful opportunity to view the sun and the sky, use telescopes plus learn about star gazing equipment and astronomy from the Cardiff Astronomical Society. They will be there to answer all your mysteries of the sun as well as tell you what astronomy is all about and what to look out for in our skies.
“The National Park Visitor Centre is fast becoming the perfect location to host star gazing and solar events, with the ideal combination of being easy to get to, but protected from light pollution. We are also planning our annual Perseid meteor shower star gazing event on Friday 12th August which we hope will offer spectacular views of the Perseid meteor shower which is due to light up the night skies on the that evening.”
