‘Deadly Duo’ bring home gold at Bwlch with Altitude Challenge

Nobody said it was going to be easy but three Llangynidr  locals scooped the winning prize at last week’s Bwlch with Altitude challenge walking over 12 miles and solving a series of puzzles along the way.

‘The Deadly Duo’ beat off stiff competitions from 10 other teams walking away with the highly coveted ‘Bwlch with Altitude’ trophy after completing the energetic 12 mile walk and puzzles which started and finished in Bwlch, near Crickhowell.

Grant and Louise Barlow from Llangynidr – aptly named the ‘The Deadly Duo’ together with another team from Llangynidr ‘The Beat Nic’s’ got the maximum answers to the challenge quiz which were posed along the route.  A tie breaker question was asked and Grant Barlow from “The Deadly Duo” was the first to the buzzer scooping the gold for ‘The Deadly Duo’.  They won T shirts plus a £100.00 to donate to a charity of their choice – which they donated to Brecon Mountain Rescue.

The teams set off from the Venison Centre and Farm Shop after being given fresh coffee and chocolate Brownies by Elaine Morgan, travelled over Mynydd Llangorse meeting Jim Price at the Trig point who counted the teams through then down to Llangors Lakeside shop for their picnic, which was prepared by Nina Davies from the Lakeside shop.

The final leg saw them climbing up The Allt and back to The Venison Centre and Farm Shop.  The first teams arrived back at 3pm and the final team came in at 6pm.

Elaine Morgan from the Welsh Venison Centre and Farm Shop summed up the day:

“We are delighted with the response we have had from not only local people but visitors too. It was great to see so many walkers coming into Bwlch and trying to puzzle out the answers to the questions, it also offered an opportunity for visitors and residents to find out more about the area whilst walking.”
