To celebrate St David’s Day this year people around the world will be able to ‘walk’ in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park without even having to leave their house. Iconic sections of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park in South Wales are available for the first time from 1st March on Google Maps Street View.
National Park Authority wardens, staff and volunteers spent months last summer carrying the 23kg Street View Trekker camera up and down miles and miles of some of the most scenic trails in the park including parts of the Beacons Way, Offa’s Dyke Path and the Gunpowder trail. The Trekker, loaned to the Authority takes a series of pictures to create the panoramic view users of Google are now familiar with. Other spots captured include the leafy trails of Craig y nos Country Park, the ruins of Llanthony Priory, the beauty of the Blaen-y-glyn waterfalls and many more.
Melanie Doel, Chairman of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority added;
“We are excited to be launching the Bannau Brycheiniog on Google Maps this St David’s Day, it will showcase the beauty of this protected landscape for everyone. Having some of the most beautiful sections available to view online is fantastic for those who can’t access the trails or for those who want to plan a route from the comfort of their armchair. For those who were ever in doubt on whether to visit, the breath taking 360° images will only encourage them further.”
