Community Groups in All Wales ITV Final

Posted on 24 Apr 2018

The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority has been working closely with Brecon Active Inclusion Group and Cardiff People First and they have both reached the final of a national competition.  They now need the support of the local community.

Now in its 13th year, the Big Lottery Fund, ITV and National Lottery have teamed up to give the public a chance to decide how National Lottery funding should be spent.

The Brecon Active Inclusion Group, the ‘Green Team’ have been working within the National Park improving green spaces and providing training opportunities for people with mental and physical health issues.  Cardiff People First, ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ is an initiative aimed at building social skills and confidence in people with learning difficulties by taking them walking within the Brecon Beacons.

The top three voted projects within the Wales category of the competition could receive funding of up to £50,000 and the groups are hoping for local support.  To show your support and help these local community groups, please visit www.thepeoplesprojects.org.uk/projects/region/wales where you can watch a video on each project and cast your vote.

Joe Ferns, UK Funding Director of the Big Lottery Fund said;

“As the largest funder of community activity in the UK, we are proud to support grassroots groups that are using the vision, determination and drive of local people to strengthen communities.”

Julian Atkins, CEO of Brecon Beacons National Park Authority added;

“Our Communities Team have been working extremely hard with the Brecon Active Inclusion Group and Cardiff People First and it’s an achievement to reach the final.  However, we now hope that local people will show their support to these beneficial schemes and cast a vote for them online.  Both these groups carry out positive work supporting social inclusion and the Welsh Governments Well-being for future generations act.”
