Ystradgynlais Heritage and Language Society are an active voluntary group who meet regularly to consider and develop heritage projects that record and improve sites in the Ystradgynlais area. The society worked closely with local organisations and schools developing this Interpretation project and was strongly supported by Ystradgynlais Town Council who have also directly contributed financially.
The £800 grant awarded enabled the society to install an interpretation panel outlining the history of the Brecon Forest Tramroad (1830) which ran from the Swansea Canal at Gurnos Wharf, Ystradgynlais to Penwyllt, through the Brecon Beacons National Park to its terminus at Sennybridge.
“The plaque is now in place and has drawn considerable favourable comment from Society members and indeed members of the community who walk along the adjacent footpath. The panel, along with those previously erected will form an interesting heritage trail in the Ystradgynlais area.”
