Can you help safeguard and nurture one of Wales’s most cherished landscapes?

The Welsh Government is looking to appoint four new members to the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority.

The Welsh National Parks are designated landscapes of international importance, visited by many millions of people each year. National Park Authorities are responsible for conserving and enhancing their natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage, and for promoting opportunities for recreation, enjoyment and understanding. As well as being the local planning authorities for their areas, the Park Authorities are also under a duty to foster the socio-economic well-being of local communities living within the Parks.

As we emerge from the Covid pandemic, National Parks are well placed to help address the climate and nature emergencies, play a key role in the health and wellbeing agenda, promote responsible tourism and nurture vibrant, sustainable communities.

National Park Authority members are responsible, individually and collectively, for providing effective leadership for the Authority, for setting its policy and for ensuring that it meets its objectives within the statutory, policy and financial framework laid down for it.  Members have a duty to act at all times within the law, in good faith and in the best interests of the National Park, and to be scrupulous in ensuring that their public position is at no time compromised in favour of private interests or gives rise to suspicion that this has been done. You have equal status on the Authority as all other members, whether appointed by Welsh Ministers or by a Local Authority, notwithstanding any specific experience or skills you or other members may bring.

Brecon Beacons National Park Authority will be conducting outreach events during which prospective applicants will be able to meet virtually with an existing Member of the Authority to discuss what the role entails.
