Never mind the weather – Iolo Williams and Derek Brockway in a cook off at the Bannau Brycheiniog Food Festival

Top quality Welsh produce will be on the menu from 10am on Saturday, October 6 as Brecon’s Market Hall offers an emporium of mouth-watering flavours during the 15th Bannau Brycheiniog Food Festival. The event will be officially opened at 10:30am by the Presiding Officer of the Welsh Assembly Rosemary Butler AM.

 

BBC weathergirl Sue Charles will also be at the event judging between eight local schools taking part in a cookery competition. Sue will then take to the stage herself to take part in a cooking demonstration. 

 

Organised by Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority with funding from the Welsh Government, the event is one of the highlights of the winter calendar and attracts hungry food lovers from far and wide. The market town’s roads are closed to allow the streets to fill up with marquees and stalls offering delicious, locally produced food and drinks. Among the exhibitors at this year’s Festival are Black Mountains Smokery, the award-winning Felin Fach Griffin Inn, Llanfaes Dairy Ice Cream, the Welsh Venison Centre, Cradoc Biscuits, Brecon Brewery and many, many more. There really is something to satisfy everyone’s appetite or cravings!

As well as the abundance of food and drink producers showing their wares, there will also be live cooking demonstrations from a whole host of chefs from the region’s finest eateries. 

 

Visitors can also wander along to the George Street car park to visit the Love Food Roadshow hosted by Powys County, to learn how to make the most of the food which you might have thought of as scraps – useful in these money conscious times.  

 

“Once again we have a fantastic line-up of exhibitors and chefs signed up for the Food Festival, and the fact that many stallholders return year after year is a real indication of how successful the event has become since its humble beginnings back in 1997,” says event organiser and Catering Manager for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority, Andrew Powell. “It’s a pleasure to organise this event and be part of the wonderful, bustling atmosphere in Brecon during the annual Food Festival – it really is unique.”
