The communities of Llangors and Bwlch are ready for a busy summer season, with their newly published ‘Awesome Walks’ leaflet launched last week which shares the magnificent views and secret byways of the area for visitors to enjoy.
Funded by Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority’s Rural Alliances project, the Discover Llangors and Bwlch Rural Alliances tourism group, have produced a total of seven walks in the walking leaflet with stunning images and maps of the area to help visitors along the way. The Group has produced 5,000 copies of the leaflet that will be available from The New Inn, The Gate Shop, The Welsh Venison Centre, Llangors Activity Centre and the Lakeside Shop in Llangors.
Nestled in the heart of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, Llangors and Bwlch are ideal starting points for visitors wishing to explore the National Park on foot. The seven walks take the visitor onto trails into the pretty landscape surrounding Llangors Lake with walks to Buckland Hill, Llangasty, The Allt, Mynydd Llangors and the Three Peaks walk – an 11 mile walk that takes in three local peaks and is the most challenging in the booklet.
But the new leaflet doesn’t just offer walking information– visitors can find out more about the activities available in the area, where they can find easier access routes and some suggestions on where to eat. National Park Warden Jon Pimm helped select the routes and members of the group spent hours walking them to make sure they were safe, accessible and correctly graded for difficulty.
The initiative is part of Rural Alliances, which is funded by the EU’s Interreg 1VB NWE programme and was created in partnership with the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority and The Discover Llangors and Bwlch Rural Alliance group as part of a local strategy to help visitors discover the varied opportunities to walk in Llangors and Bwlch and improve the visitor experience.
“Llangors and Bwlch are strategically very important villages for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park and they offer just about everything you could want as a visitor,” said Carol Williams, Tourism Growth Officer from Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority, who has funded the leaflet. “This new leaflet will let more people know about the walking opportunities available to everyone who visits and follows on from the very popular Guide to Llangors and Bwlch which was produced by the same alliance.”
Ryan Thomas from Llangors Activity Centre, was recently awarded a bronze award from the All Wales Tourism Awards for ‘Rising Star in the Tourism Industry’, and led the group to produce the leaflet said: “I’m really pleased to be part of this project and even more pleased to see this booklet available for visitors to explore the area. We’ve found that the book has been really popular so far and it’s been great to see people use the car park here at the Activity Centre and at the Welsh Venison Centre to start their walks. It’s good for business too as they’ll often pop in for refreshments or a light bite afterwards.”
