The Planning Department at Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority were selected as finalists in the Royal Town Planning Institute Cymru National Awards, held at the Hilton Hotel, Cardiff on Friday 17th November.
The RTPI National Award includes entries from across Wales, and they must demonstrate outstanding achievement judged to have advanced significantly the science and art of town and country planning for the benefit of the community, or provide an outstanding example of the beneficial impact of positive planning.
The ‘Shape My Bannau Brycheiniog’ project that was selected as one of the best in the country, focuses on assisting and helping communities within the National Park to write their own Place Plan. It is a project that is designed to encourage residents to partake in the future planning of the locations where they live. It is a grassroots initiative where residents can engage with policies within the Local Development Plan and share their views on how their town should develop, impacting the planning process and shaping the future of their town. Community leaders are supported to involve wider stakeholders and residents to develop an action plan to support the well-being of future generations in their community.
The Planning Department in the Authority is performing above the national average in a number of areas and 97% of all applications are determined within the required timescales, which is one of the best records in Wales.
