The Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority is in the process of changing its working structures to improve the way the organisation is managed and to help cope with funding cuts.
Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority’s Corporate Plan for 2018-19 focuses on four main work areas; Heritage, Landscape and Biodiversity, Resilient Communities and Sustainable Economic Development. The themes are linked closely with the Welsh Government’s Well-being of Future Generations Act and work delivered across these work areas will help achieve the Government’s objectives.
The Authority has worked closely with the Wales Audit Office and developed strong governance, scrutiny, planning performance and compliance. The new proposed changes are focused on improving the way in which the Authority delivers on the ground across the streamlined key work areas.
These changes now need to be reflected in the Authority’s decision making and members have been looking at their committee structures to ensure that members are fully involved in developing policy but also monitoring service delivery.
The proposed changes include potentially reducing the number of members on the Planning, Access and Rights of Way Committee (PAROW), holding PAROW and National Park Authority meetings on the same day, refocusing members’ involvement with outside bodies and amalgamating or deleting working groups. These changes will improve efficiency in order to deliver the corporate objectives and also save money for the Authority, at a time of financial cuts. They will essentially strengthen the Authority for future challenges.
