Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority are organising a ‘Gunpowder Works Volunteer Open Day’ to be held in the Village Hall at Pontneddfechan on Saturday 10th March from 11am until 3pm. They are recruiting volunteers to assist with the new Heritage Lottery Funded project taking place at the Gunpowder Works and would like to invite anyone who may be interested in being part of this project.
The remains of Glynneath Gunpowder Works are one of only two in Wales and the product produced there was vital to the growth of industrialisation during the 19th and early 20th century. Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority are currently implementing a Heritage Lottery Funded project that will secure the future of the site, conserving its structures and bringing it back to life through interpretation.
They are hoping to recruit volunteers and will be on hand at the Village Hall to show the diverse activities that the volunteers could participate in. Volunteers can choose to work on a range of projects focusing on ecology, history, building conservation or even becoming a member of our volunteer warden team.
All volunteers will be provided with guidance and full training for all activities. It is a great opportunity for people to utilise their current skills, learn new skills and work within a wonderful outdoor environment and the Authority is really keen to encourage as many people as possible to get involved.
