The National Park seeks to appoint one Welsh and one English language writer for 2022-23
The Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority is calling for applications from writers to take up a residency in the Park and tell the stories that will help bring about a sustainable future. The residencies will have a focus on the two greatest issues of our time: the climate and nature emergencies.
Writers are invited to submit proposals for a year-long project that will help influence positive change for the climate and biodiversity. One Welsh-language and one English-language writer will be appointed for 2022-23 and each will be awarded £10,000 to complete the work.
The appointed writers will take inspiration from the landscape to deliver a project around sustainability. They will also be encouraged to deliver workshops to residents, visitors and students during their time in the Park.
The scheme is being delivered in partnership with Black Mountains College and the Hay Festival. Part-time accommodation for the residents is being provided by the College. The Festival will provide an opportunity for their work to be showcased as part of their spring 2023 programme.

The twin threats of the nature and climate emergencies require creative solutions and this finding is intended to give writers the time, space and inspiration to explore the subject matter. We hope the appointed writers will find new ways of engaging the public with this vital discourse.”
